Creating value for suppliers
Shufersal is committed to the fair treatment of its suppliers, with transparency and timely payment, per the agreed terms. The Company is also committed to empowering local suppliers through its clear preference for Made in Israel products and agreements with small and mid-size domestic suppliers.
Prior to contracting them, Shufersal meticulously reviews all its suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, continuity, and maximum value for the Company’s customers.
Bearing enhanced responsibility for the quality for its private label products, Shufersal places supreme emphasis on its relations with its own-label suppliers and conducts rigorous quality assurance testing.
Strict quality assurance & domestic procurement
Shufersal strives to offer its customers products of the highest quality and freshness at the fairest price. The Company therefore chooses to contract suppliers whose products have proven quality and are fairly-priced, allowing it to offer the products to customers at attractive prices in relation to comparable brand name products. To ensure quality, the Company has established its own professional quality assurance system, which independently tests the production facilities of its suppliers, conducts laboratory tests, and advises the suppliers on any changes required to meet Shufersal’s high-quality private label standards.
Whenever possible, Shufersal promotes and prioritizes domestic suppliers over foreign ones. However, there are products which are clearly characteristic of particular countries - such as Italian pasta or Swiss chocolate - which the Company imports, to ensure the best possible quality and taste, and maximum customer satisfaction.
Shufersal has advanced distribution and marketing systems, which enable small suppliers to occupy relatively significant shelf space, thus strengthening small businesses and making their products available to the Israeli consumer. As a large company, Shufersal’s operating and marketing power increases the exposure of small manufacturers, which would otherwise struggle to achieve such scale. In this way, the Company helps promote a high-quality, thriving industry in Israel.
To help its small and mid-sized suppliers meet its requirements, which may involve heavy investments, Shufersal sometimes offers them financial assistance.
Dialogue with suppliers and joint learning
Shufersal considers its suppliers to be full partners, and is committed to treating them fairly, responsibly, and respectfully, and to helping them grow and develop.
As part of this effort, since 2015, there has been a joint learning effort regarding suppliers’ corporate responsibility around five major topics: ethics, the environment, safety, employment and human rights, and community involvement. At the same time, Shufersal reviewed its own conduct as perceived by its suppliers to improve its interfaces and long-term dialogue with them.
